Leica Rumors: Expect the M12 in Early 2027 Instead of an M11-R
Fresh leaks indicate that Leica is pivoting its product roadmap, planning to launch the next-generation Leica M12 in early 2027 rather than an M11-R follow-up.
While earlier reports from June pointed toward an M11-R featuring a larger LCD and updated controls, current rumors suggest these updates will debut on the M12 instead. Production is reportedly already underway, with an official announcement anticipated for early 2027.
Key Details Expected:
⦿ Sensor & Engine: Retains the 60MP sensor and processor of the M11 (dispelling rumors of a Chinese-made Gpixel sensor).
⦿ Display: Features a larger rear LCD screen.
⦿ Ergonomics: Shifts rear buttons entirely to the right side—aligning the layout with the Leica SL3 and Q3 families.
⦿ Overall Scope: Minor, quality-of-life improvements over the M11 generation.
If this is it, some minor adjustments same guts, then it is difficult to see springing for a M12 over M11P already owned with a likely jump in price 10-20%, and one to skip given the M11P was only released not that long ago. I wonder with the current price of memory will they downgrade to 64gb rather than 256gb or go double card.
This is what I have understood to be the case for many Months now as I have previously posted. I have been led to believe that the M12 (if that is what it is eventually called. In question due to copyright issues in some markets.) will be released in February 2027. It will have the same basic guts as the M11 with small upgrades and ergonomic changes. The new sensor and new processor will be in the next iteration after that.

You think this gets the Maestro IV from the Q3/SL3 line?
It feels unlikely Sony would have given them the A7R VI sensor already, but that would be nice.
