This bald eagle was not able to take off with this salmon because bald eagle can't fly with fish that are this heavy. It dragged it out of the river to the shore. Despite its injuries, the salmon struggled to survive and make it back into the river. It did make it back into the river, and the third photo shows it while it is still alive just before finally dying. I am sure the eagle or another one returned to feed on the dead victim.
