I also have. When I was in the 4th grade there was a nest just like this one way high up in a tree. I threw a rock and miraculously hit it. They came out and swarmed toward me as I ran away and I got stung several times--once inside my ear. Lesson learned.

For me, I was up on a ladder with a hammer, doing some repair work. I did not know the bird house next to me was infested with hornets. They took exception to the loud hammering next to their hidden home! I got stung in many places before I safely descended that ladder and ran away!
I think I was 73 at the time, but I broke some speed records!
