Of course the price increased.
What's unclear at the moment is the free 3-day rentals. Previously they allowed a maximum of two 3-day periods *per lens/camera* over the life of your CPS Canada membership. So with Platinum, is 8 free periods per item, or per year across all items? And whether it resets each year for a given item.
The 5% cash back is interesting in that it somewhat makes up for the loss of 'CPS pricing' a number of years ago. What's unclear is whether cash back eligibility has to be on purchases at MAP or MSRP pricing or whether it's possible to negotiate more favourable pricing and still qualify.

I just renewed my annual Canon Canada Gold Membership today for $113.00 (incl. tax). I spoke to the Canon rep on the phone and she explained to me that the two free 3 day rentals is toward camera or equipment. Since I am still using Canon DSLR's and EF lenses I asked her if I wanted to try for example an R3 or R1 I would need the RF to EF adapter. She told me that the adapter is treated as a piece of equipment so if I tried the R1 or R3 with the adapter this would count as my 2 free 3 day rentals. However I could rent the adapter for $25.00/3 days and thus I could still try an R3 or R5 Mark II in the future for free 3 day rental (and rent the adapter once again). Since I feel that I will purchase one of these cameras in the near future I will probably just buy the adapter. Nice feature is shipping from Canon and back to Canon is prepaid by Canon. Also the free cleaning service also includes free shipping both ways.

@Alevan So you just renewed at the old rate? I'm not sure if there was previously a difference between test drive policies for Gold vs. Platinum membership levels but my understanding was that you got two 'lifetime' test drives per piece of equipment. So if you wanted to try an R1, you could do it twice for three days each, or combine the two periods into a single 6-day period and that was it. If you wanted it again at any point in the future, you'd have to rent.
It sounds like the new system will be two annual test drives for Gold and eight for Platinum. In some respects I prefer this because there is certain equipment I'd be more likely to test/rent more than twice in a year. In fact this was the case last year and if I'd have had eight free test drives/rentals to tap into, it would have saved me ~$750 I paid in rentals. On the other hand, I've leaned on test drives for situations where I needed a bunch of random gear I'd never otherwise test or rent and have been able to 'mass borrow' a number of items with the test drive for each going against the lifetime maximum of two, rather than rapidly depleting an annual allowance. In the longterm, I think I prefer a system that resets each year as I can save those for high value rentals such as cameras or super-teles and pay the rental fee for cheaper items instead (assuming they let you do this).

My understanding is that the 5% would apply to the price paid, even if you got a better pricing than MSRP. Better pricing is already offered by some stores in Canada. It is generally 5% off. Some Canadian stores also already match the Canon "Street Price" of Canon Price Watch USA It would be nice if that "new" 5% offered for CPS members was a real add-on and not just a displacement of previously available price breaks. .

Agree with you. It make sense not to use a free rental for an EF-RF adapter. Too bad CPS is not allowing them as a freebie when you test drive an RF lens.

I have my invoice for my CPS Platinum renewal (at the old rate of $250) sitting on my desk, but I never received any information like that Chantal posted. I'm still trying to decide whether to renew or not - in case Canon surprises us and actually releases some competitive long glass in the near future.
It is nice to see that Canon is bringing back something akin to the old "CPS discount" we used to enjoy on pro gear purchases...
Slightly off topic, but I had let my Canon CPS and my Sony PRO Services memberships lapse a couple of years ago. When I decided to renew, it took Canon Canada nearly two months to respond with an approval and send me an invoice. In contrast, the entire process with Sony Canada took nearly 10 minutes...

My CPS expires in August 2027, so Canon still has a few months to impress me with a few new wildlife lenses along the lines of those that have been rumoured for the last 3-4 years. Agree that CPS Canada membership renewal, among other things, has always been convoluted and a struggle. They now have a new CPS login website interface but it is not clear if it is going to be possible to pay on line with a credit card.

I have requested they set up online payment so many times... I believe you still have to phone them to pay with CC.
In some respects I think their system is set up more for traditional B2B transactions. They send an invoice and the receiving party mails a cheque within 30 days. My last CPS interaction that required payment was a lens rental and I insisted on paying it when I returned it in person, rather than wait for the invoice. That said, if you need to delay payment as long as possible, you can ignore the invoice for a few months until someone finally follows up and phones you for a CC number. Not that I routinely did that intentionally, rather I'd just forget about the invoice and eventually they'd call with a payment reminder.
