Good deal, saw that one. I’m going to stick with the V1 for now. I use the 70-200 more so would likely go for that first. Haven’t seen it yet as a refurb when I’ve looked.

I would kinda rather get the 70-200 vii but I'm pleased with the v1 I got and I think the only real benefit would be less weight. with this 24-70 I'll have less stress shooting in bad weather and at the beach.

The 70-200 is my least used lens. I do like the V1 though. The gen 2's haven't popped up yet on the refurb page. Probably another couple of months. They haven't even gotten a discount on retailer websites.

You may find that the insanely light weight of the 70-200/2.8Sii changes this for you. I adored the S, but it got to ride in the bag only when it was the absolute best choice for a job, otherwise I carried the Plena because it was close enough in focal length. This second-gen, though? It weighs nothing. It's the same weight as the Plena. Just incredible. And now it goes with me any time the Plena isn't the absolute best choice.
Oh, and adding the 1.4TC makes for a lightweight 100-280/4, which is just ridiculously good.
my 24-70 vii refurb came in today. props to nikon for shipping so fast.
looks new. had a crazy busy work day so only grabbed a few shots of the dogs in the yard. (and lighting was bad) but it's looking like I scored a win here. will know more in the coming days but so far so good!

Same. Mine came in today too. It's so frigging light. The cap was reused from some other 77mm lens but the body is in pristine condition and the thing is fast. I will test it out in the next few days. Happy with it.
I'm not really a fan of the polarizer window on the hood. I don't do a lot of polarizer shooting but maybe I'll need to start to make use of it. Not sure I can justify keeping the 24-120 given how light this 2.8 is. sure I like the extra reach but.....I wonder how often I'm gonna head out of the house with f4 instead of f2.8. I love me some bokeh and fast a/f.

The 24-120/4S and 24-70/2.8Sii hoods are interchangeable. If you like the windowless hood, great news! You have one! And when you sell the 24-120/4S, you can likely get a bit more for it with that otherwise-$65 hood attached.
