Was looking for some all purpose lens that covered a wide range of focal lengths. I stumbled upon the Zoom-Nikkor AF-D 28-200mm f3.5-5.6. It has 16 elements in 13 groups, and is known to be sharp through it's range. I found only three mentions on FM since 2021 - all in the Buy and Sell area, and two of them were the G version with less glass, a plastic mount and no f-ring. The older version is the one I wanted, because I can use it on all my Nikon and Canon bodies - both film and digital, I wasn't expecting much, and had read about the anemic mfd of 6 feet, but that was a compromise I was willing to do. I am amazed at the engineering in this lens. It isn't quite prime image quality, but it is very good to excellent. I didn't see it mentioned in Laura's exhaustive Nikkor list - fact is I had never heard of it before.
