Sorry, didn't mean to imply that. Maven's Dark CPLs have been the best I've used. Just was acknowledging that I haven't tried the Breakthrough magnetics, but of the ones I've tried, I like the Maven's the best. Both optically and mechanically.
Ah, gotcha. I was about to be surprised, given how well I've liked the other Mavens, and how highly you've spoke of them too. I need to try the DCPLs at some point, would make things simpler.

Are the extra strength adapters thicker than the regular? or do they have the same profile?
Thanks for all the info.
The appear to be the same physical dimensions to my eye, the regular has a finer outer texture with the extra being a bit more coarse and easier to remove from the lens (another advantage), though mine don't leave the lenses anymore.

I like everything about the Maven set except for the fact I can't get it with the promised variable ND. Same for the new Freewell 'Dunna Dit It' set. Both look great - great IQ, slim, light, strong magnets - both say the VND is on the way. First one to get it to market gets my cash.

The race is on! Are you saying you want the full ND kit + VND as the 5th filter, or just a single VND option? I can pass that feedback along, I've been talking to Michael almost every day lately

I shoot a lot of video, some combo of VND, CPL, and mist/diffusion is what I'm looking for - something more in line with the cine kits some of the others offer. Lately everyone seems to be doing a 1-5 stop VND with another ND stacked to give you a 6-10 with bundles of CPL's, mist and so on. Curious to see how Maven does it. I sent them a message recently and Michael replied that a VND is coming.
I have the Freewell locking system, it has the pinch cap style attachment on the edges of the filters that works great, but it's much larger than the newer super slim mag systems. Like it's really bulky compared to the Maven and the Dunna/Brandon Li setups from Freewell. Plus the VND is a 3-10 stop, if I don't need 3 stops I have to bump my ISO to get exposure right. Its annoying.

Maven has the LPL/Diffusion combo filter, but they only offer a 25% strength. If you put a CPL on it, that would turn it into a VND with diffusion included.
I'm not crazy about the look of their diffusion from their marketing, but I haven't tried one myself yet. I stick to the tried and true Moment Cinebloom 10% for a touch of softness but nothing overt.

Yeah, 25% is too strong. I usually run a low strength Cinebloom or a Tiffen Black Satin and then add my VND or CPL on top. The quest for my perfect combo with the fewest pieces and ease of use in the field is never ending. A few are close...
