p.1 #1 · a7r5+sigma 85mm f1.4 vs z8+ nikon 85mm f1.2 z
I bought the nikon 85mm f1.2 z some time back but I never had a chance to compare it with the sigma 85mm f1.4 dg dn which I also own.
Below is a series of comparison shots taken handheld. Mainly to check bokeh. Top shot is sigma, bottom shot is nikon.
Other than the first pair which the nikon is obviously better, the difference is smaller than I expected. The BIGGER issues were I forgot to turn of efcs on the Sony and the bokeh WAS HORRIBLE and I had to retake the shots with EFCS off. Also the a7r5 shutter speed were maxed out in some of the shots..
At the end of the day, the nikon 85mm f1.2 is a REALLY big lens but somehow it does not feel unbalanced on the bigger z8 body. Although the sony combo is significantly smaller and lighter, I feel "happier" and more "professional" using the nikon.... although I shoot just for fun. BUT when the camera is in my bag as dead weight, I wish many times for it to be lighter.

I came back to my comparison photos today and without knowing which lens took which, I preferred the sigma 85mm f1.4…. Which is kind of sad as the Nikon is like triple the price and twice the weight…

I like the Sigma photos more too (aside from the swirly bokeh in the top left of the first picture) but I think its because they look "lighter/brighter" and the Nikon looks darker/contrast-ier but that can obviously be corrected.
Still won't be selling or swapping my Nikon 85mm 1.2Z for the Sigma though.

I don’t see how anyone would prefer the Sigma rendering here unless they were influenced by the exposure difference. But to each their own.
