Prolific photographer Jay Maisel has passed away at age 95. His photograph of Miles Davis used for the album "Kind of Blue" was criticized for it being slightly put of focus. His response was, "That's what makes it art!" a refrain we hear often in the film forum.

Like Mr Maisel, I enjoy the activity of photographing. The pictures are a bonus.

I didn't know much about him when he heard that he had passed. I checked out his work after and found I really enjoyed it. One of my favorites was this one: https://www.jaymaisel.com/collections/humor01.
It's kind of a clunky way of putting it but I find his work has a certain frankness to it, and what I really like about that is he treats that fairly neutrally in his compositions. There's a very wide range of expressions and emotions in his work that comes from that.
Also, his website is one of the best I've gone to from the big photographers. A lot of them make you work to see the photos, his is the opposite of that.
Heard him speak at Photo Plus in NY several times. Wish I could have attended his workshop in his bank building. I’ve always been amazed at his vision. Great photographer who saw things others missed.
