Over the Unknown

p.1 #1 · Over the Unknown

I took these shots from the plane yesterday while flying over Eastern Greenland (from Iceland). The landscapes were so unreal that when I saw it from my window I quickly grabbed my 100-400mm lens and started firing like a mad man - a thousand frames in high-burst mode just to come away with a few good, sharp ones.
I quickly took off the polarizer (you can't shoot through a window with the polarizer on. You'll get weird colors and dark/bright areas within the frame).
And yes, this was shot through a double-pane aircraft window from about 35,000 feet.

The mountain ranges below are astonishing: vast, pristine, and largely unseen and unexplored. The glacier in this image, near Mount Forel, looked impossibly clean and untouched.

Now I just need someone with $20 million to fund an expedition there. Two helicopters (one as backup), fuel, boat, and enough food for a month, and a small team willing to find out what those mountains are hiding.

I can only imagine the images we’d come back with. They’d be absolutely unreal.

Nice captures Gregg. Considering the conditions you were shooting with, the detail is very sharp.

You've done great with the conditions!

I have some friends who skitoured in Greenland, though obviously not as far out into the unexplored part. I'm still very envious.

I want to go on that 20k trip as well... oh sorry you said 20 million
