Latest from NR, we could see some new products being announced in September. What we know so far that is confirmed by Nikon and wouldn't be a surprise are:
- Nikon 120-300 2.8 TC
- Nikon Cine Lenses
- Nikon Zr firmware with new h.265 codec
Some of the rumors floating around of course have been a few new bodies, of which three which have received a lot more talk lately are:
- Z70 (mirrorless D500?)
- Z9 II
- Point and Shoot?
Z9 was initially released 2021, some say its overdue for a Z9 II.
Z70 will be exiting if this happens. I tried Z50II and it was a sweet camera (size , weight , controls etc) except the very slow sensor that made it useless for action. The resolution also need to go up. I don't believe the 45MP rumor. But sony's new 26mp stacked sensor is a possibility.
I doubt Z9II will happen now. While it's almost 5 years old, no other camera has improved like this after the introduction. So we can say Z9s already exist. Hope I'm wrong.

What is indicating there will be no Z70 from this info?
Surely something will replace the Z9 II, regardless of nomenclature. I'm getting too senor plus air restrictions too much to have interest in them though.
Of course the Z9ii is coming, it's their flagship product. It will likely be one of the first bodies with Expeed 8 in it and a showcase for what is to come for the next 5 years among the lower-end bodies.
Every company is supply constrained on chips and memory right now, so my guess is that the Z9ii design and specs have been finalized for some time and they are working on scaling production before release. I expect a very iterative release and nothing groundbreaking, with some "catch ups" like RAW precapture and perhaps RAW 30fps that have been missing from the Z9.
So far no leaks about Z70 except the little one from apple (typo?). So I don't have my hopes

If Z9 II does just catch up now, it'll be disappointing. It need to surpass at least the FPS. Let's see. Anyway I think it'll be coming in 2027. Not in next couple of weeks. Or Nikon can surprise us lik3 back in 2016 (D5 & D500) with Z9II and Z70. That'll be sweet.

Yeah, I don't think it's coming any time soon (Z9ii), only sometime before the 2028 Olympics. I see no reason why the Z70 would need to be Expeed 8, and it could largely be a part bin camera reusing Z8/Z9 tech. It would still outperform the Z500 by every metric. That would also help satisfy the brokie lamentations that the Z8 is too expensive
I'd pay $3K+ for a good hi-res cropper. That big old Z8 with huge 4.34 µm pixels and early 2020s FPS is not what I'd be looking for in 2027. Somewhere around 36MP at 30 FPS should be feasible for APS-C.
Of course they should update the Z9, and the Z7 III (or whatever name) could desparately use a 60+ MP sensor.
Nikon needs the new product for their own sake. They reported declining sales themselves, while a lot of Z9/z8 users are waiting with cash in hand to buy new model. Z9/Z8 might be enough as a photography tool but ade not enough for them to keep investors satisfied.
Like Scott said, the Z9 is their sports flagship. It's the camera that took everyone by surprise with the features and price, and brought over a lot of new Nikon users. I remember placing my order for the Z9 a month after release with BH, Adorama, and local camera store, I got a call back at least 7-8 months later telling me it was in stock. The Z9 II will at least have the improvements from the other Z cameras, like 8-Stop IBIS, 5.76m Dot EVF, Line-in, 32-bit float, etc.. I wouldn't be surprised if they added support for CFExpress B 4.0, and add Pre-Capture Raw, 30fps, and huge buffer. Personally, I think the reason Nikon has taken 5-years is because they're making something stellar like the Z9 with new efficency, features, speed, and focusing capabilities.
Personally, I'm not looking to upgrade to a mark II pro body. I have both a Z9 & Z8, and would like to get a 2nd Z9. I'm hoping a Z9II is released so I can buy another Z9 for under $3000...

You think they'd release a 105mm if they have the Plena? I haven't gotten my hands on a 105mm 1.4E yet, but id really like to. I know they're different focal lengths but they're both aimed at portraits and the Plena is quite special in that regard.

Initially I said a Z7 III didn't make sense next to the Z8, but the A7R VI and A1 II prove this can be done. A high-res, slower reading sensor vs an all out high-speed camera. They'll probably gut the video specs to something like the Z5 II, NRAW that's line skipped.
tell ya what a smaller/lighter z8 and a new z 105 1.4 would cause all manner of financial havoc for me! I could see me raiding the gun safe to fund the difference.
I can kinda see the incentive to shrink/lighten the z8 as the Canon r5ii appears (I've yet to be able to handle one) to be a more friendly size.
I can’t commit but I constantly find myself looking at either Fuji, OM or the Sony a7cii while also looking at massive Nikon lenses
