This image gets me a little worried about Canon shenanigans being played here as someone proposed before. Is the “600” just the 400 with TC elements in the rear and a fudged focal length from 560?

Maybe if it was a G lens, but i don't see Sony doing this tomfoolery if its supposed to be a GM lens?
if the new 600 is as good as the 300/2x, it will be a dream kayak lens for me. The loss of about 1.5# vs the 300/2x is a huge deal when dangling the camera an inch or so over the water. If the new lens gives up IQ to the 300 combo (other than 1/3 of a stop which means nothing to me), I'm a pass. Waiting to see reviews by Jan and Steve Perry.
Then the weight of 600 should be higher than rumoured (which is a possibility anyways)
If that's true, I'll be happy to get 400 and add TC when required.

Looking forward to seeing how these compare to the 300+TCs
I just purchased the 300... it's incredibly sharp with or without the teleconverters for about the same price as the two new lenses. The weights are a big plus for these two.
The identical MFDs give TC element (Canon shenanigan) vibes. But then the weights being 1gm apart and the 600 being larger and needing those extra elements means it can't be that simple.
I searched Sony Japan to see if they have published lens diagrams but can't find any yet.

The official Sony video shows the diagrams. They appear to be very similar. With an extra pair of elements in the 600mm. But it doesn’t look like a 1.4x internally incorporated though
