I'll be in Asheville, NC the weekend of Oct 9-12 and looking forward to some fall foliage! Not sure if it will be peak, but will be probably thrilled to see some color regardless.
I will have 3 sunrises and 2 sunsets available to me. Will be staying in western side of Asheville and willing to drive wherever in the morning and evening within an hour or so.
So far my plan is this:
Sunrise - Mills River Overlook, Pounding Mill Overlook, Tanbark Ridge Overlook,
Sunset - Thunderstruck Ridge Overlook, Cowee Mountain
- Other considerations for sunset: Waterrock Knob, Caney Fork, Craggy Gardens, Hominy Valley (only cause its close)
Open to everyone's opinions...I feel a bit more set for sunrise on the first two spots, so mostly looking for day 3. Sunset, having a hard time narrowing it down to 2.
I'm fine with most spots short of them being a complete zoo, as long as I can find a spot with some amount of space. Aiming for mostly pull outs instead of hikes for the spots since in the evening, it will be after I drop off the family back at the airbnb and will likely head out around 5-530pm to whatever vantage point.
I also prefer generally "classic compositions" as opposed trying to find a new angle or something super unique since most trips I'm on is one and done, so likely won't be back for a while at least, so trying to get the mountain layering look for at least one of these.
