I had my vehicle broken in to and lost a Z7ii with a Z24-70mm 2.8.
I know Leica keeps a database, but can't see one on Nikons site.
Does anyone know if they keep a database?

You need to get a police report for the stolen gear. Nikon USA will put it on a list to be flagged if they ever come in for service. You probably need to reach out to someone in service to find out who to send the report to.
This was some time ago (2012?) but there was a post about someone who had their D3 seized by Nikon when they sent it in for service. Apparently they had unknowingly purchased a stolen camera. Nikon turned it over to the police department.

Somewhat recently a member here had their Z9 confiscated when it was sent in for service. Member bought it used, Nikon said it was listed as stolen.

There are gear-agnostic stolen gear databases you can immediately submit your S/Ns to. That will at least work for any conscientious buyers who check it, esp for arms-length in-person transactions like Craigslist and Facebook marketplace:

UPDATE:
I called Nikon tech support, who sent me an email to respond with a police report showing serial numbers and then they escalate it internally so if the lens and camera ever shows up, they will hold for the police.

Good luck. It’s a frustrating endeavour to work through. I had my gear stolen in 2009 at an event location. Nikon was very helpful with loaners and took my gear list (which you have done). It’s a crappy way to update your gear. Hope it works out for you.

Update to this little nightmare:
Nikon require a police report to escalate the camera and lens to their “stole” database; in spite of me having registered the equipment on their site already,
The bad news is, the County of San Luis Obispo wants to charge me $25 for a police report!!
My homeowners insurance deductible is $5,000, so I wont be filing a claim. So, I see no point in spending another $25 to satisfy Nikon, who will not return the camera to me, but will make it available for the police to hold in evidence.
Thanks for all of the suggestions, but I am done with this and moving on.
