p.1 #1 · Easiest color management for Instagram: digital or film capture?
When shooting stills for Instagram, I have a choice between digital shoots and mail-in film negative scans. I consider either option challenging for color management (which is why I've often avoided the problem by shooting black and white Kodak 400TX). Can I reasonably assume that film labs, by introducing more variables to color scans, will make things harder?
A scan technician has innumerable choices when scanning and saving. Many of those choices are not aesthetic and have to do with configuring and saving color profiles. I feel that a digital camera, especially one I control in my own hands, offers simplicity and consistency.
In other words, though I prefer film, should I save myself a headache and go digital for easier Instagram production? If I stick with film, should I ask for files to be saved in a specific way?
