Looking at getting a 500pf for a while, seems the price is now $1999 instead of the $3500 ish it was before. Maybe its a bout to be discontinued? Either way I placed an order.
It is still a terrific lens...especially at about half the price of the newer 600pf. I switched over, but the 500pf has always been one of my favorite nikon lenses.

I paid full price for mine, getting one shortly after they were available. It has served me well for many years, and was my go to lens for birds even after getting my Z9.
Given the current used price, would buy used in a heartbeat - it's that good a lens as far as I'm concerned, and at $1600 a real bargain..
