The High Res mode on the OM-1 can be used handheld to make a 50MP RAW image. It does this by taking 12 images and combining them, and it does this relatively quickly, about 5 seconds. Because wildlife usually moves it’s not a feature used very often for wildlife photography. However, whenever the situation presents itself it’s an amazing feature to have at your fingertips.

I think this little gal passed! Head feathers are perfect in terms of texture. Back is fine.

P.S. next time I get a stationary bird will try this trick. I assume that you used a tripod??
Thanks Mike. No this was handheld and I had the shutter speed at 1/3,000 because I was expecting it to take off. Could have got better results with slower shutter speed, f8, and lower ISO. On tripod I could have tried the 90mp High Res option. Either High Res option is a good option for owls, herons, etc. It also gives a result with less noise.
