Hey all,
If i stack a F to E adapter and then add a megadap E to Z adapter, will I be able to get focus confirmation on my Zf using a Non Ai lens?
I know I can use focus peaking on the ZF but it'd be nice to have the green box.
Would love to know y'alls thoughts.

Not exactly sure about the Megadap but generally works with adapters like that.
But there is a big catch: this works because these adapters will communicate a default focal length to the camera, usually 50mm. This will overwrite any non-cpu lens setting in the camera and if you shoot anything other than 50mm, your IBIS will work incorrectly. Esp with shorter focal lengths the IBIS will actually introduce shake rather than preventing it..

You need an adapter that is programmable for focal length. Not sure if the megadap is, most people I know go F>M then M>Z with a programmable M adapter.

I have the older megadap adapter. I've never tried stacking adapters before so this would a first for me. My dad's friend just shipped me a 55 1.2 Non AI Nikkor lens which he had sitting for a while and then got CLA'd before giving it to me.
I have previously used Sony E mount lenses with no problem on the ZF.

Yes. The non-cpu lens section won’t give you focus confirmation, only functional IBIS for dumb lenses.
You need a programmable adapter to “spoof” the focal length at the lens level for focus confirmation.

Thank you for this. Must have missed it in the Zf adapted manual focus lens thread. How to set with Megadap ETZ21 Pro+:
Enter the camera menu, select ” CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU” – “f Controls” – “f10 Focus Ring Rotation Range” in sequence. By setting the value corresponding to the focal length, the image stabilization performance will be significantly optimized.

I have used pre-AI Nikkor lenses with my ZF a lot. I started using them with a TTartisan 6-bit M-Z adapter, with a F-M adapter on the front of it. This works great if you want green box focus confirmation. You do have to (or at least should, in theory) remember to change the little focal length dial on the TTA adapter whenever you change lenses. I honestly can't say I've ever noticed any IBIS related issues, and I forget to change the focal length dial more often than not. I do mostly shoot in daylight at higher shutter speeds, so the issue is less. YMMV.
Lately I've been mostly using my pre-AI lenses on an FTZ adapter, and using magnification + peaking to focus. I assigned the function button on the front of the camera to magnify, it falls right under my ring finger and works great. It may be a little slower, but I figure that once I'm using a manual focus lens I'm sacrificing focus speed for other things.

The TTArtisan Leica M to Z 6-bit Adapter does the trick. Its discontinued, but they pop up on the used market from time to time.
Only the six typical Leica focal lengths are included though: 28, 35, 50, 75, 90 and 135mm.

Monster Adapter also announced they were going to be making an F to Z adapter for MF lenses (LA-FZ11) that would accomplish this it will also have an aperture ring position reader built-in. It was not entirely clear (translation to English?) but it sounded like a phone app would be used to tell the adapter which manual lens was attached to provide the correct focal length to the camera.
