p.1 #1 · Thoughts on latest Photoshop update

I know the homepage has been talked about, but what are people's thoughts on some of the new features?

I use PS after LR in my workflow. I have many actions I have developed and use in my bird/wildlife photography that make it quick to batch process. Those actions have been affected by the changes. Some of my observations are below.

1. Inability to use the fader slider when using actions. Added a step that can be used if a single photo is being edited.
2. Did they change actions such that the steps can’t be reviewed?
3. Automatically apply actions when clicked on.
4. Resizing (my method) does not create a clean photo.

I managed some workarounds on some shots this morning, but it seems like more work.

I'm interested to hear other thoughts. I just read about the Generative credits in another thread today. It appears to have been implemented on the 17th?

I have not encountered #1 and #2 yet.

#3 really annoys me. Maybe it is just habit, but I prefer to select the action and then “play” it rather than have it “play” simply by clicking on it.

#4 has not affected me at this point. I have several resizing actins that I use for different aspect ratios and to create jpg images from my PS files, including some that resize and add borders and text. They appear to be working fine. Fingers crossed.

Before the change, I could perform an action on a single file, then adjust it under EDIT in the menu bar to Fade that action a certain percentage.

2. Did they change actions such that the steps can’t be reviewed?

Before, there was a small down pointer to the left, and clicking on that would show the steps used in the action. That is no longer available, that I have found.

I find #3 annoying as well.

I just took a look. You can still review actions but the way you do it is now quite different, at least on my Mac version of PS.

You used to be able to reveal the steps of the action by clicking the triangle icon next to it, IIRC. Now I can control-click on the action, which produces a new window that includes several things, one of which is the steps of the action.

I rolled mine back to the classic Action appearance. I kind of liked the Auto Apply but the rest bugged me.

In the Action palette click top right on the little multi-line icon and all the way down at the bottom of the pull down choose Classic Actions

Appreciate the information. That gave that part back, but still doesn't allow the Fade command use under Edit in the menu bar.

Ditto, appreciate the tip. Now my PS looks like it should.

One of my employees asked me why my workstation has an ancient photoshop on it, I had to explain that I simply have the UI set up like how I've always used PS.
