The X-Pro3 introduced a very controversial LCD concept: You don't need the LCD as a still photographer. Many disagreed, and the ribbon cable quality issue made it worse. Yet, after being reluctant initially, I now fully embrace that concept.
The basic information on exposure is all I need on the little screen, and the main LCD has been opened by me may be two or three times when setting up the camera.
But there is another reason that makes the no LCD (or minimal LCD) design viable: By removing the LCD (and the totally useless Film Sim Dial) space is created for a larger EVF! The next E-Model needs a larger EVF. It is the only thing I currently dislike about the X-E5, and the only thing that would make me want to upgrade to the next model.

Larger evf= larger camera most likely, so a bit pointless as such already exist in other models..
Why should I get used to the idiosyncratic lcd of the Xpro 3? Rather no tilt and turn it off if I don't want it, so I stuck with Xpro 2

The point of removing the LCD and the Sim Dial is to keep the camera size. That said, I think the X-E line will be growing in size closer to the X-Pro and in the end replacing the X-Pro line. A larger EVF is in the X-T line - but that is a very different concept from the range finder style of the X-E line.

I’ll be blunt.
Removing the LCD is just plain dumb. ;-)
If you are looking through the viewfinder of your LCD-less camera you cannot see the part of the camera body where the LCD would be located anyway… so there’s no good reason for removing it.
And if it does distract you to have the LCD display running you can simply turn it off and the back plane of the camera is a plain black surface.
And sometimes a rear LCD screen IS tremendously useful, even to people who might usually choose to ignore it. For example, when shooting at waist-level as we did in the old days with TLR cameras. Or when photographing close up subject where the camera has to be in positions where it is impossible to put your eye to the viewfinder. Or when shooting over crowds with the camera held over your head.
I do think it would be a fine idea to reserve a 1/2 inch square or so on top plate for an always-on monochromatic display of things like exposure data.
In the end, that little fake film box end holder on the XPro3 was a gimmick. I suppose a few people really do like it, but quite a few others labored heavily to convince themselves that removing a useful feature that they could have ignored anyway was a good thing… or that “real photographers don’t use real LCDs.”

That "waist level" argument is for sneaky old men who can't bend their knees anymore :-) End of bluntness :-) How did People take those "over the head of crowds" pictures before LCDs? Just aim and shoot. And, of course, I am not calling for the removal of LCDs from all camera bodies :-)
My objective is to create space for a larger EVF. The Sim Dial and the LCD screen are prime targets for that. It is not about shutting an LCD off or ignoring it. And it works splendidly with my X-Pro3. Since I am not doing video at all, the EVF is all I need - and in fact I need a much better one.

But I defy you to get a viewpoint inches from the ground with an optical or evf finder, even if you are fit.
Have you tried the overhead lark with a tlr? Add the fact that the camera is upside down to its "natural' left to tight reversal and you have near terminal disorientation.
And it's always better to frame the photo than wave the camera around in the right general direction and hope.
Full marks for the ultimate waste of time bringing back the Xpro3 angst from years ago.

May be I am just not the "above crowds" or "on the ground" shooter. But I am a fan of the X-T5 EVF and would like to see it on the X-E. If that means good bye to the LCD - fine.
