Every so often, I see posts in my local Facebook groups labeled MODEL CALL. The post outlines the intended photoshoot, then includes a price. It's essentially the same as a mini session.
Am I mistaken, or is “model call” being misused here when it's really just a paid photo session?
My understanding is that a "model call" indicates that the photographer is either going to compensate the models or offer an exchange of images for the time spent at the shoot. It's an effective way to build a portfolio without paying a professional brokerage. I've used that method on a Facebook group and out of five "models" only two showed up ready for the shoot and others were just looking for freebies.
