The plastic sleeve spins completely freely 360 degrees, but it feels vertically locked/mechanically captured and refuses to slide off the top when pulled. There are no grub screws anywhere on the casing, and applying heat with a hairdryer didn't expand it enough to budge.
I've seen a few pictures of this lens without the sleeve.

Does anyone recognise this setup and is there a trick to get it off, or should I bring out the saw?
Never dealt with anything like that. Be careful, though. I've purchased a couple of enlarging lenses of the bay that had weird mounts I assumed the lenses were just screwed into, but it turned out the entire body was modified and the mounts built-in, with no typical M39 mount at all. If the sleeve is somehow integrated in the build in a way that's not obvious, a saw may only expose a larger problem.
