I received a promotional email from Nikon about an upgrade promotion - trade in any working lens or camera body for a discount toward a new Z item. One of the FAQ answers said "any brand". Another answer mentions reasonable resale market value. I dunno'. Does this include trading in any F-mount gear? They make no mention of F-mount stuff.
Just curious. It would be an opportunity to pick up a modern lens, but maybe not such a big opportunity after all. I wasn't looking to buy a lens at this time.
The trade in promotion is on their site -www.nikonusa.com and has more fine print.
It does not specify only Nikon cameras or lenses. Normally, the legal team would have stroke if they didn’t specify. You could play it safe and call Nikon customer service.
If you don’t have a Z lens at all, you should get one to understand the quality difference. The F-mount lenses work well, but the Z lenses are in a "different zip code” altogether!
I traded my Zf in on a 70-200. It was a super easy transaction. I bought the lens at full price, they sent me a label for the trade, and a week later I had $1200 refunded. It was seamless. Go to the trade-in page on their site and click "start your trade". You can get a quote for a bunch of gear, and certainly plenty of F-mount gear. If what you have isn't listed, they'll just give you a quote once you send it in. Although interestingly, it looks like you can only trade camera for camera or lens for lens now. Up until recently, you could trade anything in no matter what item you were getting.
Also there are usually sales on the Z items already, plus trade-in bonuses, so try to get something with a trade-in bonus added. They're usually $100-$300 depending on the value of the item. Whatever that bonus is, it's on top of your trade-in value.
Thanks, you two. I bought my Z5ii and FTZii specifically to use my lenses from the old days. So far it has worked out well. (You can judge for yourself by looking at some of my pics in the Nikon/Z5ii and MFNG threads.) But as with the MFNG thread, people are always willing to spend someone else's money! So I'm tempted. Of course an additional hurdle is I have no idea what lens I'd want. But that's another story.
I can't get 'any lens' to work on the Nikon site. Only lenses they have specifically listed in the search (ie type something in and it comes up) appear to give the discounts.
Adorama seems to work a bit better with this. I can't find on B&H where they participate in this at all.
