p.1 #1 · Confused on which Sony A to E adapter I need
I have a Sony A7RIII, and I have a couple of A mount lenses: the Minolta 50/1.4, and the Sony / Zeiss 50/1.4 SSM.
If I want both of these to autofocus with as much compatibility and speed as possible, is the LA-EA5 the adapter I want? What about the LA-EA3 or others?
Secondarily, if I put one of those lenses on a Sony adapter, and then adapt THAT to Nikon using the Viltrox E-Z adapter, will that work?

The Minolta is screw driven, so it requires the LAEA5. The Zony has its own motor, so it can AF with the 5 or 3. I don't think the 5 will AF screw mount lenses on the a7rIII. That feature was camera-dependent on the release of the adapter and I don't think that's changed.

Zeiss 1.4/50mm SSM for A-mount is cool, worth to have it adapted (as a 2/24mm SSM too).
Minolta or Sony AF 1.4/50mm regular one for my preference is not so 'retro' in look (and not so well corrected as current options) to bother adapting it. Something like 2/100 or 2.8/100 Soft focus will be more interesting.

Most earlier Sony bodies aren't compatible with the LA-EA5 and screw drive. The 50 1.4 ZA is a wonderful lens that has its own motor. Looking at the link provided earlier in the thread, it looks like the Zeiss lens will AF with either the LA-EA5 using on sensor focus areas. The Minolta 50 will only AF with the LA-EA4, but will use the semi-translucent mirror and off sensor af module to focus. It will also drive the ZA lens, but not with the on sensor AF points. Several later cameras supported AF of the screw drive lenses with the LA-EA5.
