This got me thinking/hopeful. Viltrox not only works with Sony's lenses, but the TC actually works with one of their lenses (the 135). Obviously, the idea is that it could work with more in the future.
So what does everyone think will happen from here? Will Viltrox get sued and remove it? Will Sony make firmware updates to block it? Will Viltrox just make a firmware upgrade to combat this? Will Sigma and Tamron follow and we now would have this as an option for a number of third party lenses that could benefit from it?
You can recognize me as the person in the back of the room cheering on the third party makers. I am glad that Sony allows third party lenses unlike other brands (looking at you Canon), but I am not a fan of their limitations on third party lenses. This may be the start of a change or just quick moment in time that some hope was provided.
I don’t know how these agreements work, but I did find it odd they released a 2x TC. But no 1.4x. The latter being much more useful
Perhaps that was the only way Sony would look the other way. I don’t know
I do hope Viltrox does release a 1.4x. I’m not sure if there’s new leadership over at Viltrox. But they have been putting out exceptional lenses lately!

I think since the 1.4x tc is already very good, the 2x was just an easier product to manufacture and test out demand. Frankly I am really hoping this makes Sony open their eyes and allow third party lens onto their tcs but still at the 15 fps. Third party lens is one of the main advantages Sony E mount has over its competitors, should be leveraged to attract more wildlife shooters to this platform.
