This combo is constantly failing me, they lose connection all the time. No other lens has this issue on this body and the 70-200 works fine on my A9iii. Anyone have this issue?? Firmware is current and contacts have been cleaned repeatedly. tia
I would check if all the screws are tight on the camera's mount and on the lens' mount.
You will want to use a JIS 00 screwdriver. A PH 00 can work but at risk of stripping if not careful.
Since the lens doesn't have problems on your A9III and your other lenses don't have problems on your A1 then it may not be the screws. But maybe both the A1 and 70-200 are just slightly off and the combination is resulting in the issue. Or if the 70-200 is your heaviest lens then it may be the only lens showing the issue with slightly loose screw on the A1.
I now, have the α1 II, but when I had the α1, I used it with the 70-200mm F2.8 GM MkII, I shot several events with that combo and didn't have any issues
Sounds like a tolerance issue. Both lens and body are towards the limit of tolerances. But both still within them
Used separately with other lenses and bodies, no issues. But when combined together, the combination is just far enough out of spec to cause intermittent issues
Like Geoff suggested, I would make sure all the screws are tightened down properly (I wouldn’t over torque) Anything more than that, you could cause more harm than good
What's the minimum intervention required restore communication with the lens? That detail might provide clues as to the source of the issue. From least to most significant:
Waiting a certain amount of time
Racking focus or zoom
Cycling power on body
Removing+reinserting battery on body
Removing+remounting lens
There's no one method that restores the connection. I used to power down the body and then they would reconnect but the last time I had to remove the battery pack from the grip. I will be sending in the body to Pro Services next week. ty for the help
I have had issues many times with my A1 bodies deciding to not auto-focus (using AF-C) and it has occurred on the 200-600 and the 300/2.8 with and w/o teleconverters. It happened this morning, actually. The camera knows the lens is there, but the AF-C just stops working. I have gone the route of making sure that the screws were tight with the JIS 00 screwdriver as suggested above (checking all screw on all three A1 bodies, the lenses, and the teleconverters) but it has not solved the problem in my case. It is incredibly annoying.
