A new State Historical Society building is going up on the Capitol Square right next to one of the oldest buildings in the downtown area. The facade of the old building is being retained but the interior is being gutted and will become part of the museum. The windows are being replaced and are temporarily blocked off with insulation and the way the sunlight was hitting it yesterday gave it some nice contrast.

Thanks much, Dan. They completely razed the old museum and what they're building on the same footprint is vastly different. I'll reserve judgement until I see the completed building but it kind of mimics the Madison Art Center just three blocks down the street and also the nearby Public Library. We have quite a bit of mixed architecture in the downtown. Here's what the finished project is going to look like (theoretically).

Thanks very much, Scott. I do indeed love my M10M. It's pretty easily my all time favorite digital camera.

Great capture Brent- wonderful tonal range, but then I seem to say that every time!

Thank you, Bob. I feel the same about your M8.2 images.

I am not so sure I like the new building Brent!
Too much of a contrast in architecture styles...but then again that may be what they are going for...

I will await YOUR analysis...
Thanks!

I'm with you on this. I love the old facades and hate to see them go. Unfortunately, that's a minority opinion in this town. We've been undergoing a major facelift in the downtown and campus area for the past 20 years and the more modern styles are winning out.

I am afraid we are in minority everywhere Brent!
All in the name of "progress".
Europe, Asia have kept their architectural identity very well while blending the "new" styles with the old.
"Out with the old, in with the new" is the mantra of the USA....
Thanks to the members here we can at least relish those "structures" that remind us of our growth...or decay.
