As a long time Canon shooter, I think the lens situation since the RF switch is a disaster, and embarrassing.
Many here have had the interest and funds to switch and or shoot multiple platforms. I'm not that guy, and just want to shoot Canon. But I'd REALLY like to be able to shoot good 3rd party glass as well, and NOT have to spend 2x-3x for an RF what I paid for the EF version.
So that's my take on the slowed down interest in Canon.
As for the 5D4, it's provided me with some of the best images I've ever taken. It's is amazing with the EF 500mm II

The R5ii is priced very competitively compared to (for example) the A1ii, and the R50 also very competitively priced.
To some extent Canon is betting that it will make money downstream on marked-up lenses, and is willing to use the cameras as a loss leaders.
I think the R50 line is used as a gateway for new photographers into the Canon ecosystem, and Canon may not see a profit from the R50 user until he upgrades to a full frame setup since 3rd party APSC lenses are available for RF mount.
What I dont like is that Canon has used their walled garden to nerf some of their non-L RF lenses with focus motor implementations that visibly update focus rather slowly.
Its really not acceptable to me for any RF lens to have outdated optical designs, and/or slower autofocus than Canon's own EF85/1.8 USM which came out in 1992, or compared to lenses made by other manufacturers like the FE28-60mm kit lens which uses what Canon calls VCM motors and can focus fast enough for 120fps shooting.
If Sony tried to pull this stunt, that lens will see zero sales, since Sigma and Tamron are competing with fast linear motor implementations.
Some examples are the RF75-300mm F4-5.6, RF 85mm f/2, RF 35mm f/1.8, ...
