p.1 #1 · Why does Techart LM-EA7 AF adapter work (somewhat) on NEX-7 (contrast detect) body?
The specs could not be clearer:
Techart LM-EA7 adapter is designed to work with cameras that support Phase Detect AF
The NEX-7 only has Contrast Detect AF -: not PDAF
so, Techart LM-EA7 AF is not (supposedly) compatible with Nex-7
However, in practise, the LM-EA7 does AF manual lenses on NEX-7, but not in very low light
Techart website has this to say about the Nex-7:
"To gain phase-detection capability on the NEX-7, you must use an adapter such as the Sony LA-EA2, which brings full-time phase-detection AF to E-mount cameras using A-mount lenses".
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, an older post on this forum mentions:
"The Techart PRO has been designed to provide optimum performance with Sony cameras that support 3rd party PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus)...Techart does not recommend using the TAP with cameras that are CDAF-only or whose on-sensor PDAF works only with native lenses (e.g. the A7, A7R, A7S, and A6000). A number of FM members have reported poor autofocus performance with these cameras."
So maybe the LM-EA7 if I am not mistaken the LM-EA7 does provide AF to E-mount cameras like the Nex-7 but just not as reliably as with cameras that support PDAF?
