p.1 #1 · Sony Live view remote for RX0II and other cameras
Now here is a question for dinasour hunters!
I look for a way to use a live view remote to operate a modified RX0II that I have mounted on a gimbal?
Previously I found that the RM-LVR2 for Sony action cams can be used to operate the Sony A7S and some other cameras apart from Sony action cameras, so hoped it would also work with the RX0II, but it didn't.
Instead, AI Search indicated I could use the RM-LVR3 to operate the RX0II, so I have tried that, but it is not working either. However it ALMOST works: the LVR3 finds the RX0II, the RXOII asks me to confirm that I want to connect to the LVR3, then attempts to do so, but does not connect and after spinning for a while the LVR3 generates an error message indicating failure to connect. Interestingly (to me) the LVR3 does not generate the error message that indicates the RX0II is incompatible.
I have tried the standard troubleshooting strategies, switching units on/off, removing batteries, updating firmware and checked the Sony website, which does not indicate the RM-LVR3 is compatible with the RXOII but also does not list among compatible cameras the Sony A7 and Nex camera, which I have found ARE compatible with the LVR3.
I have also confirmed my iphone XS works as a live-view remote for the same RXOII but as you know using an older iphone to operate Sony cameras, depsite all the hype, is notoriously unreliable.
Perhaps using a newer iphone or android (Sony?) smartphone like the iPhone15 as Live View Remote for RXOII or other Sony cameras rather than an old iphone like my XS is more reliable these days than it used to be?

I have found aI on a search, gave me a Positive on my search. I was a little surprised so dug down on the real links. The reality was Negative. I now regard AI as a nuisance.
I feel unless sony says it is compatible you are at the end of the road.
Does Sony say the RX011 has any way to control it remotely?

I also regard AI as somewhat of a nuisance, but a useful one. Unfortunately Sony website is no less forthcoming for example they make no mention of the RM-LVR being compatible with other Sony cameras like the A7S apart from the action cameras it was sold to support, even though it does work fine with some of these cameras. Not to mention the abject unreliability of early versions of Sony smartphone apps designed to control Sony cameras via wifi, as well as the uselessness of cameras like the clunky QX10...excuse the rant!
Perhaps not always getting everything right goes with the territory when you are fighting to corner the market for cutting edge technology? But where would we be now without it...
Exactly where I am, wanting to remote control a fine tiny camera like the RX0II on a gimbal but lacking a viable way of controlling it via live view remote... unless (i hope someone can confirm) some newer smartphone/app combo or other gizmo can do it?
If I understand right apart from Sony action cameras the RM-LVR does work with any Sony camera that has wifi and Play Memories remote app that the RX0II does not have, but not other cameras

Yes, the RX0II has both Bluetooth and Wifi. Mine works just fine with the Small Rig Bluetooth remote, enabling me to take a photo or start/stop video recording, but the Small Rig Bluetooth remote I have does not have Live View ie provide a live view of the image or video on the LCD of the camera.
If I understand right the Small Rig extender only extends the range of the signal and a seperate device is required to receive the signal and remote control the camera?

I have come to suspect the problem with connecting the RX0II via wifi to either iphone or remote control nowadays is related to the old-fashioned 2.5 Ghz wifi capacity of this legacy camera that does not work as smoothly as the current 5.0 Ghz network that the phone and most other newer gadgets normally run on and most newer apps are designed to maximise - not old-fashioned stone age technology that is no less profitable to run and maintain than a T-model Ford, despite the nostalgia value.

If the camera is only 2.5g you may need to force the remote control hardware to also be on 2.5g, even if they are communicating with a router in the middle. At least, this has been my experience with non-camera controllers.

Thanks for the good advice! I also think to try connecting the camera to my iphone with a small 5GHz HDMI transmitter like the DJI RavenEye that is a bit clunky but not expensive. I hope it will work better than the RX0II's inbuilt 2.5GHz wifi transmitter.
