The kids stole the show that day at the Bowness Criterion when they had their ride. It was called a race but it was more of an opportunity for the kids to ride a few laps of the course.

R5 MKII

My favourite shot of the day. Although more of a snapshot, this young lady likes to pose for the camera. When she was approaching me and saw my camera she turned her head to face the camera no longer looking at the road ahead until I snapped the picture.

35mm f/1.4 Nokton on APS-C vs D35mm f/1.2 Nokton (Z-mount)

Hi all! After the discussion on the 35 classic vs the 40 f/1.2 on FF, I wonder about how it would behave on APS-C bodies vs the D35mm f/1.2.

Specifically, looking at spec sheet and lens diagram on the Cosina Voigtlander site, it looks like both lenses might be twins, with one version covering FF and the other limited to APS-C. I wonder if that is really the case, and, if so, if it would make any sense at all purchasing the APS-C version for my Zfc and Z50II (beyond the 0.5 stop aperture difference) ? Obviously, the FF version would vignette much less on APS-C, but beyond that? Any difference in rendering?

The glow and rendering in B&W from this lens is very appealing.

Even though I already own the 40/1.2, I picked this lens up last week mostly because I was curious about the size difference. I think it's just about the perfect size for the Zf. I really, really hope Voigtlander releases a similarly-sized 50/1.5 Nokton.

No real impressions yet regarding images compared to the 40/1.2, but if I find the image quality similar enough, I'll keep this lens just for the ergonomics.

p.10 #9 · Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 Nokton Review

Thanks, Fred, for reviewing the lens, and starting this discussion. Wonderful work, as always!

I test-shot a friend’s M-mount version of this Nokton in early 2023, which “saved” me from spending ~$4K to $6K US on a Leica Summilux-M 35mm ASPH FLE. I then bought a Re-Edition Steel Rim Summilux-M 35mm Classic for $3895 US, in mid-2023, which may well remain the only Leica lens I will have bought new, rather than pre-owned. Having now, finally, added the Z-mount system, in mid-2026, I am so very glad that this Nokton is extant for the Z-mount.

I can see myself wanting to buy this Nokton Z, plus a larger, optically better-corrected 35mm lens. I tend to do that, with each system I use. The Zeiss Otus 35mm f/1.4 ML Z-mount, and/or the CV APO Lanthar 35mm Z… No specific order of precedence is yet established.

Keep telling myself: I am a retiree, shooting only for myself…..

Life is good. Life can be beautiful.

p.10 #10 · Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 Nokton Review

Been reading this thread with great interest. I have a Zf on order (should arrive next week) and been looking for a manual focus lens for it. Been using the VM Nokton (the single coated latest version) as my primary lens for years on my Leicas till I got rid of all of them last year. If it is like that then it looks like a winner to me!

Nikon ZF with Voightlander 35 f/1.4 classic Z. I got at used price along with the Septon 40 f/2 Z, also used. I like them both.
SOOC no edits. Just some film simulations
