p.1 #1 · Two dramatic images featuring American Oystercatchers
Both of these were taken at Nickerson Beach on an overcast and warm morning here on Long Island. In the first image the Oystercatcher had just blasted off when a 3 foot (1 meter) roller was coming in and would have broken on it. If you are formula with aviation, the pilot would have heard "Terane, pull up!" readily. In the second image the Oystercatcher had finished feeding and was about to return to it's nest. More on the nesting habits in another post.
