Back in February we visited Death Valley NP. On our second day we explored the Keane Wonder Mine area and ran into our first Chuckwallas. These are large lizards ( up to 16") with a flat midsection. When threatened they will wedge themselves into crevasses and puff up their bodies so that they can't be pulled out. They are herbivores so while they look scary they aren't dangerous.
