I feel this is the right place to post as this will mainly be used for wildlife photos and videos. I got my Kayak all worked out today how I want my camera rig setup. This should work out great.
Looks great and should work fine. I mount my big lens on a gimble tripod combo very similar to your layout and then have a second body with a good zoom in case something pops up close and I need a quick response. Enjoy.

Thanks, this lens is a zoom. It is the 100-300mm and most likely I will use it on the kayak with the 2x. So giving me a 200-600mm which is a decent range.

What an interesting setup! Do you ever use this setup or parts of it on land? Do you use camouflage on the kayak?
I never have used camo on the kayak, it would be pretty hard for something not to see this coming even with camo. If you are asking about the part of the camera gear on land then yes, I use the setup all the time, geared more for video in the pictures. As far as the kayak I never used it on land for shooting.

Looking forward to the photos you and your dog take Rob. Do you strap or tie down the legs of your tripod?
Morris
Hi Morris, I do not strap it down. It is hard to see in the picture but the tripod is kinda wedged. Sure if it flips then big trouble anyway. This is a very wide kayak, I can stand up in it. So chances of it flipping would be very rare.

You mean you don't want to role with your camera? But why? :-}
My concern is rocking quickly or being bunked. I've had cameras take a swim and it's not fun to watch yet I've been lucky and never had water damage.
Rob, I find the 9'6" model interesting and my thought is to Velcro a skimmer pod with a gimbal head on the square black hatch where your tripod presently sits.
Please tell me exactly which model you purchased as the 9'6" does not have that flat hatch.

The model I have is the 10.8ft Rapido Modular Fin Drive Pedal. I personally bought this one because it had the biggest front bow area for my dog.

I'm only commenting because I love seeing a nice setup like you have there. Just out of curiosity; strap down the tripod or not?
Greg
Thanks Greg, I personally do not strap down the tripod. It is tough to see in the shots but the tripod wedges a bit. the center legs is lower into the peddle well and the other 2 legs against the molded kayak. I am not against doing it just do not see the need. I usually only paddle flat water. The kayak is super wide and I can stand in it. That said if I wanted to then there are to track rails on either side which I think I could use.
