It's a joy to listen and watch the oystercatchers sing and dance on Nickerson Beach. Sometimes it's just a pair and it's not uncommon to see a young male join the couple as he tries to lore the female. It is very special when all the birds in the beach start to sing and dance at once. This used to be incredible when there were 50 to 100 of them on the beach yet since Hurricane Sandy the numbers have been much lower. I still enjoy this time of year and being there alone with the birds lets them get used to me so that they trust me near there nests and young in a month.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
