I have shot with the rmt-p1bt for several years.
Mine eats batteries, but otherwise does everything I need.
I need to replace it- it isn't waterproof.
Looking it up, I see there is also a rmt-vp2.
I do not need the separate video button, but I see the vp2 has a longer range which might be useful.
Any experience comparing these two remotes?

Just a heads up, might help someone else make a decision.
I received the rmt-vp2.
It is a little smaller- not enough to mean anything.
Range is longer- nice.
Biggest improvement for me is the battery door. You no longer need a tool or coin to change batteries. More than once out in the field I was digging through my bag and pockets to find something to open the battery door on the rmt-p1bt. Different lock/opening on the vp2, no tools needed.
Still it is just a remote.

Newer RMT-P1BT remotes also have the new style of battery door that has a handle instead of coin groove.
My experience with the RMT-P1BT remotes is that they are great when they work, but they are not all that reliable. When they stop being reliable then replacing battery helps a bit, but only short term. They mostly work at home temperatures, but in cold it is worse. Sometimes it helps to pair it again, but sometimes the remote does not react to buttons at all. I am not sure if there some interference from other devices I carry (android phone with Sony's app; some wireless mics, but I am using mics only last two years and I had problems with remote before as well).
My first RMT-P1BT stopped being reliable after 3 years. I do generally like up to 15 landscape trips a year where I use it.
My second one stopped being reliable after 2 years.
My third one (new battery door) stopped being reliable after 6 months.
Then I bought JJC BT remote instead. Mechanically the switches are lower quality. I also had problems with it.
Then I bought Rollei remote with intervalometer (two part design where one part plugs into microusb port). I have used it once. Works so far, but this one cannot do manual focus using buttons on remote (useful for focusing long lens when AF does not work and using focus ring on lens shakes it too much when using underspecced tripod) and it requires to open side door which interferes with my L-plate (the one I have can be adjusted for it but it requires alen key).
