p.1 #1 · A7r5 af point persistence in tracking custom c1
I am trying to map the tracking custom c1 with af on to one of my buttons so I have a short cut to engage a larger tracking window based on my current af point location.
I just recall hold 2 and change the area mode to tracking c1. But the camera forgets my current af point when I engage the button… is there a way to make the camera keep the current af point? If I use tracking xl it works fine but somehow tracking c1 is different and forgets the current af point.
Any idea? I need an area bigger than tracking xl.

I *think* you have to register the af point first, then map the button and then turn off the af register option. I was researching this for the A1 II and the menus are the same. See if this video can explain it in more detail. &list=LL&index=3&pp=iAQBsAgC

I tried toggling the af register option but no effect. Somehow all the tracking c1 c2 c3 modes have their own af point memories independent of the rest of the point tracking modes….
Drives me nuts… I find that really limits the use of the custom modes if they don’t rem where my current af point is.

Can you describe a bit more what you are shooting when you are wanting to do this? Is subject detection active or is it just the Real time tracking box (square with vertical line on either side) tracking an object?
Also can you clarify are you moving a smaller Flex spot to a position (for example the upper right corner) and then want the Custom Zone to start in that upper right corner position also? Or are you actively tracking after starting off from a smaller flex spot and then want the custom zone to continue tracking the exact same thing when you push the custom button?

It is very simple. For focus area, I am in tracking spot m. In this mode you can position the spot anywhere. I want a button to override to a larger spot using custom c1 at the same af position.
New subject, nothing to do with tracking the same subject or complicated af handoff like in Nikon.
I just want a simple button to have a bigger tracking box at the location after I reposition my af spot. It is like u said “ moving a smaller Flex spot to a position (for example the upper right corner) and then want the Custom Zone to start in that upper right corner position also”

I finally got around to testing this. I don't see any way for the registered AF mode to move to where you currently have your AF point positioned.
You can register your AF mode in a certain position but that isn't really what you are looking for.
