A little background on the young man. He had to give up football after a hairline fracture at C-5 during his sophomore year in high school but he continued with his physical fitness. He is now 19 years old and a sophomore in college and decided to enter a power lifting event.

1.His first squat at 463 lbs

Maybe not a reason to go to a different college, but I am seeing a few schools having varsity power lifting around country now. I don't know if any are in the So Cal area though.

That said, this looks like a tricky event to photograph. Can't get close and there isn't much separation between the competitor and the spotters. I hope your grandson enjoys these photos.

Yes, it was tricky. It's a very small gym with lots of people. I had a difficult time finding a spot to even get a view of my grandson.I could not get a shot of the bench press because of the crowds. On top of everything else,the lighting was not good. ISO of 12,800.
Even with all that, it was good to see him compete.
