p.1 #1 · Advice on feedback for a not so great transaction in FM
Looking for some feedback from experienced FM members about how you would handle this.
I recently purchased a lens from a seller who described it in the listing as:
“This one was never out of the box – it was a replacement from the dealer for a defective one, after I had already bought another.”
Condition 10 like new.
However, the lens and box I received is clearly not the same lens shown in the listing photos, and it also shows signs of prior use (including a small ding on the barrel). So it does not appear to be “never out of the box” or like-new as described.
at best a 8+ to 9 condition.
I contacted the seller and pointed this out. I even offered to send comparison photos showing that the lens I received is not the same one pictured in the listing. The seller insists that nothing is wrong.
To be clear, the lens is still in decent working condition and I’m not planning to return it or ask for money back. (probably not woth the probroblem) I mainly wanted acknowledgment that the item was not the same as advertised.
My question to the group: in a situation like this, would you leave neutral feedback or negative feedback? I was hoping to leave positive feedback, but the listing photos and description did not match the item received.

A photo of another lens/box is misrepresentation. That would be a negative for me. Just the condition might be a neural.

Personally I would leave a minimum of "Fair" since you kept it. Negative feedback would also be appropriate.
The seller misrepresented the item and should be held accountable in some form.
Before "Feedback" became a process on FM, I had a few transactions that were "Negative" because of misrepresentation. But way back then a buyer/seller had no "place" to mention that and warn other members.
I would also PM Fred about it. He needs to know that about this member.
Good luck Aaron! Yes it is a "sticky wicket" situation.

Thank you for the responses.
Part of the reason why I am keeping the lens is because I think I will lose more if I try to return it. (I paid PP FF) How can I trust that I will get a refund if I ship it back to a seller that has been deceptive. Besides the seller in not even accepting that there was a misrepresentation. I may end up shipping it back and end up with no lens and no money.

Well you should have indicated 'poor'. In future you should not be so foolish as to do PP FF.

Which is why I never ever use FF I don't care if they have 400 good transactions. But that is just me...
