p.1 #1 · 2 JPGs when importing images from SD card into Lightroom
Can someone explain why I get 2 JPGs when importing images from SD card into Lightroom? This is new behavior which has never occurred before.
The two JPGs are binary identical.
On the SD card:
DSCF1220.JPG
DSCF1220.RAF
After importing in LR (in the 'Import' folder)
DSCF1220-2.JPG -- This is the duplicate file that doesn't exist on the SD card.
DSCF1220.JPG
DSCF1220.RAF

What's in the destination folder before you start the import?

Is there maybe already a file named DSCF1220.JPG in there and LR creates the second one to avoid overwriting the first one? Do the creation dates on both files match?
Have you tried importing to an empty folder? If you just import the raw file, what do you get?

Thanks for the detailed images. I'm trying to replicate the issue here but I can't make it happen. Even turning on the 'make second copy to' option doesn't give the same outcome as you're seeing. Do you have any plugins or extensions that might be affecting the process?
I'm afraid I don't have any answers, only questions... If you take another photograph does it show the same issue when importing? Did you make any changes in-camera using the edit features in playback mode?
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I Googled "lightroom RAW+JPG duplicate" and found the culprit. I won't go into the details but if you're curious on why google the phrase above and you'll find out.
It was a setting in Lightroom Classic--see link below. Since this started happening recently and never before, I can only assume that a LR upgrade made this change.
Posting here for others that may run into the same issue.

AFAIK that option has always been there, if clicked 'on' it should allow import of both RAF and JPEG, if 'off I always assume it would imprt 9nly the RAF if both were on the SD card.
