All my AF-D lenses giving f-EE error.
Yes the D lens is set to f22.
Yes the f-stop lock switch is set.
Yes I see the body mount feeler move to the top as I mount the AF-D lens.

G lenses working fine.

I thought the setting was smallest aperture and then lock it, though not necessarily f/22.

Clean body contacts? If the lenses are all at minimum aperture, and the D500 is giving you an error with all of them, then it points to the D500 being the issue.

If you want to check that the follower tab knows where it is, you can set a lens in the non-CPU menu. With no lens attached, the top LCD should reflect the maximum aperture that you set. Then you can move the tab with your finger, and you should see the aperture setting change as the tab moves.

OffTrail, I see weird/inaccurate values for MF lenses too. The Fstop follower tab is confused about where it is. With no lens attached, f-stop is not the defined largest fstop (f2.8). Its more like +5 stops (f16) going up to f45! Seems this body (which I just got off ebay) is defective with regards to the manual fstop detection.

Looking at Nikons repair details, they asking for an original sales receipt. I dont have that! Does that mean second owners of NIkon gear cant send it in to get serviced? might have to do a return to ebay. drat.

Generally they will service US models for money if parts exist. You have to check with Nikon if the D500 is still repaired, but I'd charge it back as defective and not mess with potential issues. Unfortunately many D500s were heavily used since it had that high FPS for the time and large AF, making it a pro-class body.

Bummer. I'd send it back and just get another.

But as far as Nikon repairs, I've only seen the requirement for a receipt when you choose the "this product is under warranty" box on their repair site. Nikon will fix most things if they have the parts, but not always under warranty. In fact in the last few years, it seems like people have had success getting non-USA gear fixed where previously Nikon USA wouldn't touch grey market stuff.
