Looks like there are touches of green in this, Robert, 'would love to see it in color! Perhaps a little lower perspective to get the bridge out of the foliage.

Landscapes, frankly, do not interest me. I thought I'd post this and see what, if any, comments might be. My main question is the trees, which add depth and perspective to the image yet hide the bridge. I do have other images, plain ol' postcard-like things. Glance and move along, nothing that really invites a longer stay.
I love covered bridges and have 5 within minutes of me and many more if I can travel to Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
Your explanation of the frame coincides with my opinion.
My take is that the trees are depriving the viewer of seeing more of the bridge. It appears to be a very long covered bridge which is unique in and of itself. Very "weathered" looking. The small overflow is excellent!
I don't know what the surroundings are to try another viewing perspective.
