Last year, I traveled to Lahaina for a family trip to Maui. I arrived with a long list of locations I wanted to photograph, but those plans were sidelined when I caught a bug right at the start of the trip. While it was disappointing to spend most of my time resting at the condo, I managed to make the best of it. Each evening, once the rest of the family returned, I’d drive to the nearest beach (Ukumehame) to capture the light on the tree. During the final two days, I felt well enough to venture further; we drove up to Haleakala National Park for the sunset, but the weather wasn't on our side, leaving me with only a few shots. Though the trip didn't go as planned, spending time with eight of my family members made it a memorable experience. Here are a few images I managed to capture despite the circumstances.
Ukumehame Beach Park tree is very picturesque and I like the drama you have captured on #3. Haleakala is always a special place and cloud cover really adds to the drama. Despite some setback you did well. Thanks for sharing.
gorgeous set of pictures. they really help you feel like you are there enjoying the natural beauty of hawaii. the sun, rain, and rainbow picture is special. thanks for sharing.
Parul, that’s a bummer you got ill so soon on your trip, but congrats to pushing through and making images! For me the first and last are breathtaking and print-on-the-wall worthy.

Strong lovely set of images Parul! You made the best of your limited opportunities.
Thank you very much there were few others on the same beach but this one had nice parking spot with no one around which worked well.

Nice work with limited time in the field. Good thing you had that nice tree on the nearby beach
Thanks Jim, the tree was so amazing and fun to photograph. So many compositions could be made but with limited time it was hard.

I was going to say the same thing. I doubt it stayed there long.
I think that tree has been there for a while!

Totally agree, the tree is very picturesque and I tried capturing different mood and scene. Glad you enjoyed viewing them.

Thanks Wendall, so glad that I was able to invoke that feeling The sun and rainbow image was a quick pull over on my way to the beach to photograph the tree.

Strong work. But the first three images of the tree in water are in a class apart.
Nice series Parul! Sorry to hear about the bug you caught, but you did ok. My favorites are ocean shots with the tree in them and the last picture with the great sunset - wonderful sky!

Thanks Ross, yes it was a bummer but still enjoyed being with the family. Luckily a beach with a picturesque tree was only 10 minutes drive aways.

Thank you Jacob, I bet I caught something on the flight as I was totally fine until I landed in Maui. At least it was not all wasted as I was able to get away a little to photograph. But didn't see anything in Maui except for few iconic location. Totally missed the road to Hana
The sunset was really awesome. I had to pullover on our way down from Haleakela NP to get the shot from road.

Sunset 3 is the best from sunsets.
Thank you! That one happens to be my favorite too! The waves crashing into the tree trunk added some drama to go along with the dark clouds.
