This female Wood duck is on her way to the small area of open water on mostly frozen Oakland Lake here in New York City. The water fowl love this part of the lake in winter as it's spring fed by 55f water so it never freezes and is also sheltered on 3 sides by the hills that make up the Oakland Ravine. I enjoy the shelter there as well as it's a place with almost no wind chill except on days when the wind is out of the east.
Comments and suggestions welcome,
Morris
