Well, fortunately for us here in Austin the big storm didn't dump a lot of ice. Some snow would have been nice, but mostly we got a good coating of sleet. Still it made things look like winter and the birds are out and about. Due to the frozen condition of the streets, my wife and I have been 'house bound' for the last two days, but I still got a few fun shots in the yard.

Nice images Greg. We had that little bit of ice you got on top of the snow and with the drifting we had 9 inches in some places and about a foot and a half in others.

Thanks, Morris. Glad you made it through everything OK -- of course you folks are used to this kind of thing. Here in Central Texas everything really comes to a halt when there's snow or ice -- it doesn't matter how much either!
My daughter and family live in Pittsburg, Texas -- way over in northeast Texas. They were supposed to get slammed with 1/2 -3/4 inch of ice. I spoke with her this morning and they were spared, and ended up getting the same thing we did. So hopefully most were spared of what was originally forecast.

nice pictures, greg. i have went through several ice storms and they are serious trouble. it is amazing the damage they do to trees and especially power lines. i grew up in middle tenn and we had the worst ice storm i can remember probably 45 yrs ago. ice was several inches on the roads and it almost shut everything down. i was working on a dairy farm and we had to mild by hand while the power was off. we got a backup generator right after that storm. be careful when outdoors on ice. you can slip and be on your back quick as a wink.

Thanks for the comment.
We had a really bad ice storm back in 2021. We got 6 in. of snow and an inch of ice that created a real mess -- long power outages and lot of tree destroyed or damaged.
I just thank the Lord this one was nowhere near as bad.
I take your warning very much to heart, as my wife and I are now up in years and a fall on ice could do a lot of damage.

Ice can be highly detrimental to the wee birds being able to find food and water!

Thanks for the comment, Douglas. I have made sure to keep my feeders full. Birds amaze me with their ability to deal with weather that would do us in.
Speaking of cold, I've been watching some fun Youtube videos called "Luna -- the Pantera", They chronicle the life of a Russian couple in Siberia who have a pet Rottweiler named 'Venza', and a pet Black Leopard named 'Luna'. They all regularly go out hiking and playing in the snow in temperatures I wouldn't consider being in. I guess it's somewhat relative in terms of what someone is used to.

Enjoyable set Greg! Birds have some amazing natural ability to keep their feet warm with special blood flow in their legs. Google " birds countercurrent heat exchange system"
My little nephew in Frisco got a couple days off school but was disappointed with the quality of the stuff they got which couldn't be used to make a snow man. I told him better luck next time kiddo, enjoy the snow day off school, those are rare down south.
