My friend somehow broke the front glass on the viewfinder of his X100VI. He went on a road trip and when he got to where he was headed, it was cracked. It appears like it got something pushed into it or knocked in his bag, I would think when he was taking it in our out of his car. It has <2k shots on it and is "flawless" other than that. Thoughts on what it's value might be in the current condition? I'm not a member of Buy/Sell at the moment, so I'll have to link the photo on Google Drive
Just the glass on the front of the camera 🤷🏼♂️ everything still works 100%. Talked to a buddy that has the ins with Fuji and said it’s a good $5-600 to fix because it’s the entire top plate SGinNorcal wrote:
Does it still work with just a crack in it? I would ask Fuji if they can give you an estimate for the repair.
It looks like a separate part from the top plate as its a different material. But the top plate has to be removed to replace the window. Either ask Fuji or take your buddies word for it. Deduct the fix price from the value of the camera plus some to make it worth your effort to get it fixed. If he bites you can then decide how much it bothers you. I've been pleasantly surprised with Fuji repair costs in the past.

As a photographer not using OVF, just EVF, I would skip the repair. Maybe put a black tape over the broken glass.
If OVF is a must, most economical fix is probably sell the camera as it is and buy a good condition second hand X100VI. There seems to plenty of these around.
From my own experience, I do not recommend leaving cracked glass without replacement. I also had cracked glass on my X-Pro2, which caused the interior to fog up and made it impossible to see anything through the OVF. The crack also causes the camera to lose its weather resistance.

If it were mine, I'd just leave it as is. He was planning to sell the camera anyways, so I was just researching potential (unrepaired) resale value for him. I was thinking probably $1100-1200 or so given how popular it still seems to be.

Oh, I'm not buying it from him haha. I had the opportunity to do so, but just didn't think I'd get enough use to justify having one next to my X-T5, as much as I loved the VI.
I rarely see people on the Buy/Sell forum here selling cameras that require repair.
So, you might want to check some other marketplaces - Ebay or Facebook Marketplace for example. You can see all completed Ebay listings for x100vi that require repairs. They do sell every so often. The unrepaired value is not going to be very useful to you.
You can get a quote from Fuji for free, but in my experience they need to see the camera in person. Meaning you have to ship it to them, and if you decline to have it repaired, you will have to pay for the return shipping as well. I have no idea what that repair would cost -- or how long it would take. But I don't imagine it's cheap. Some years ago, I sent in my X100V because it would not power on -- some circuit board needed to be replaced, that was $500.

Insurance? At least in Europe it is typical that home insurance is packed with all kinds of extras. If the mishap happened close to home then it should be no brainer. One customer covers the deductible of the insurance, normally like 150e. If mishap happened further away from home, then it might be covered with leisure or travel insurance.
Not sure on that account. I believe he rents his place, and it happened like 8-10 months ago haha
