All of this! It’s hard to imagine Nikon doesn’t hear the demand for a high res Zf or straight up Z7iii.
I asked the same question some guys from Nikon Germany some time ago, and they told me it would cut too much into their profitable Z8 sales. Unofficial but honest statement.

Can everyone stop. Y’all convincing me I need another go round with the Z7.
Yes, you need another round with the Z7. Strictly in terms of IQ, I think the Z7 or Z7ii (especially used) is a the best bang for the buck right now. I would still place the IQ in the top tier of FF cameras today.
I see the OP bought a Z8, congrats. If it was not for the bulk and weight (but mainly the bulk; OK cost as well) I think I'd pick the Z8 over the Z7. I'd better stop now because I keep talking myself closer to a Z8 every time I think of it.

I like the Z7II IQ alot. One rationale I keep close to avoid the Z8 temptation is the awareness that some degree of the cost of that camera is in tech I do not need including high speed shutters, video and some others. I am using a Zf if I want a taste of better AF and have learned to set up the Z7II to optimize controls for AF capability in a variety of conditions.
