p.1 #1 · Also looking at 50's for my MF kit

Selling some older lenses that never really worked for me to fund a new MF kit. I have a nice AF kit (18, 33, 56) for my XT5 but I enjoy MF when I can take the time and focus on the process when traveling.

Picking up the 18 & 27 Voigtlanders for Fuji and looking at options for the 50mm range.

50/1.2 for Fuji obviously is being considered for the communication with the body
50/2 APO Lanthar M-mount
Keep M-Hexanon 50/2

From what I read the 50/2 APO is tech just about perfect - maybe too perfect? Is it clinical? Could a 1/8 BMP filter breathe a bit of character while keeping the sharpness?

How does it compare to the 50/1.2 in real life?

It looks like the APO is a substantial upgrade.

I own both the 50 Apo and 50 1.2 (sony E-mount version).
The 50 1.2 is a very versatile lens...from f1.2 to just below f2 you get different soft-medium soft vintage looks....all while still reasonably sharp. From F2 on it is almost as sharp as the 50 Apo.
The 50 Apo is bascally clinical perfection, I use it mostly for food/product photography....for portraits for example I use the 50 1.2, the Apo would be too sharp (maybe a mist filter might help there....)
I am happy that I own both, if I could only have one I would pick the 50 1.2 as it is 95% as good as the 50 Apo from f2 on and below that you get a great vintage feel.
Hope this helps...

I have a Super Takumar 50mm 1.4 8-element lens and it works surprisingly well with Fuji bodies (GFX and X). I use an M42 to Fuji adapter. I'd say its sharpness is even better than my vintage Nikkor 50mm 1.4 AIS. If you want more character, check out the 50 1.2 AIS or Nikkor-S.C 55 1.2. I've owned both, but didn't appreciate them at the time and got frustrated with hazy wide open performance. Now that I'm a bit older, I'm starting to appreciate the quirks of old glass. Not every lens need to be sharp.
