It works for me. Personally I like dark BG as makes the subject more powerful. I would even push it further, but it doesn't need to.
BTW,you can also eliminate some of the BG using a vertical crop.
The only thing I see is some light halos on the left petal. Probably some reminiscence of the original BG?
Beautiful flower, I like the vivid colors. May be do some dodging/burning on the flower to create more depth?
I called "halos" because I couldn't find a better word. Bu, as I said might be part of the original BG.
It shows better on a computer. I have noticed that images posted on FM get darkened a bit.
Here is the original file cropped. I think what you are seeing is natural.
I didn't replace the background I did this in several layers and did some curves and dodging and burning. I plan to redo the image and be a little more careful. Just replacing the background didn't give me the look I was going for.
