It could be that the Viltrox lenses in question may be more expensive later though. I agree that the 35mm f1.2 option appears to be a lens that would take away some of the 1.2S market, so Nikon would want their cut.
Its what I am thinking the 135 1.8 and 35 1.2 and their announcement of releasing a 50 1.2 and 85 1.2 is directly competing with Nikon's best lenses and taking away sales.
I really hope Viltrox pays Nikon their royalties and things go on!

You may have bought just in time to avoid the royalties!
An extraordinary lens, one that must be giving Nikon...well, kittens!
That's a smooth and assured look, bassderek. Luscious highlights, not easy. Do you find the RAWs easy to work, responsive?
High resolution, subject separation and close MFDs are a great combination in 2026. I buy my Chinese lenses direct, a much better experience. Especially now..

That’s the version they should have made originally.
Hard disagree. If they're ditching the multi-function ring for a single-function ring, that's a significant downgrade. I don't love the always-on Viltrox lens screens, but taking away my exposure compensation ring on the lens is a hard pass from me.
Hopefully the original model sticks around for one more sale.

The ability to use exposure compensation via the lens, is a big factor in buying a lens. If Viltrox remove that feature, they remove me from their future sales
Interesting that B&H used an image of the old lens with the screen photoshopped out. That image has the multi-function ring, and the lens identifier still up by the front element, as on the current production non-"N" version.

Same. The only Viltrox I own, the 16/1.8, drives me *batty* with its "we know you have an aperture thumbwheel but lol retro cosplay time!" aperture-only dial. It's well-implemented, but useless to me. Like, literally useless. I have no use for it. If I'm shooting above f/1.8, I'm going with the 14-24/2.8.
sigh.
Utterly fantastic lens for the price in every other aspect, however.

And likewise, there are many of us that hate unmarked, lightly clicked or smooth, endlessly rotating rings on our lenses that get accidentally bumped resulting in settings changing without much indication. I'll take a well-clicked aperture ring over a function ring any day. I turn off the function rings on all of my Nikon lenses.
